STILETTO STAMPEDE

Hey everyone out there. I want to talk to you about something that is very close to my heart. I decided last night that because I have a blog, I have a unique voice and a platform.
I am sorry to be depriving you of my paleo recipes with this post but I really feel that this is important. I want to use this platform today to help fight breast cancer. Will you help me?

I recently joined a planning committee for an organization called Stiletto Stampede. The Stiletto Stampede is a non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas.  Our mission is to raise breast cancer awareness among young women and men and empower them to become advocates for their health through fun events and unique programs throughout the year. Their main fundraiser in Austin is coming up on Saturday, October 20. This event is focused on raising funds to benefit the Seton Breast Cancer Center and is going to be one hell of a good time. The event itself is a 100-yard dash in high heels -- and you can walk, run or strut. There will be 6 heats, including a survivor heat, a men's heat (yes, you can make your man do this with you!), a celebrity heat, a pooch scooch, a stroller heat, and the stampede.

I joined Stiletto Stampede in honor of my mom. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago and I am proud to say that she is a survivor. She has always been diligent about prevention and awareness. My mom is an amazing woman. When people ask me what my mom does, I've always said that she is a professional saint. She is the best friend any of her friends have ever had. She is the best mother to me in every way. She constantly gives and gives of herself without hesitating. She is a school nurse, a hospice volunteer, a eucharistic minister, a loving wife, grandmother, sister, mother and friend. When I found out that she was the one in every eight women diagnosed with breast cancer, I couldn't help but feel that this was utterly unfair. No woman deserves this fight. We have to be prepared for it and fight to cure it.

You most certainly have been personally affected by breast cancer. You have a mother, aunt, grandmother, sister or friend that will or already has battled it. Who will you honor by joining Stiletto Stampede?

Proceeds from the Stiletto Stampede 100 yard dash benefit local breast cancer organizations throughout Texas, as well as outreach education and rehab programs developed by the Stiletto Stampede organization.

Our founder, Michelle Patterson, said it best at our last committee meeting. We are here to raise awareness, provide support and fight to find a cure.

Stiletto Stampede is about saving lives.

  1. Hi, so glad I found your blog as I'm sure you have heard a hundred times. My husband and I just started our second month on paleo and that is pretty big considering we never committ to anything!
Anyways, I don't live in Austin, but I do have friends that live there and will pass on the blog post.
I couldn't find an email contact for you. I wanted to know if I could host a charity event for this Austin event with u and your bloggers. My email is laylaej@gmail.com
I applaud you for making people aware that October is cancer awareness month.
