THE BEST DATE I'VE HAD IN A WHILE (and another giveaway!)

A few nights ago, my husband and I had a fantastic date. At home. We cooked together and drank wine. And it was stress-free. We used a new App called Cooking Planit to make dinner. It kind of felt like we were playing a game on the iPad. This app is an awesome concept: A GPS for your kitchen. It will guide you through every step of cooking from grocery shopping to chopping! It makes cooking so simple, anyone can do it. These recipes are all designed to take the guesswork and stress out of cooking, helping the user and their guests enjoy the most important part: the food.

I remember what it was like when I first learned to cook. I was terrified. I literally needed someone to hold my hand through the whole process, telling me what to chop, how much, how fine; how hot do I heat this pan, oven, grill; how long does this cook? It is daunting when you first start cooking. I followed recipes to the letter and just trusted others' understandings of flavors and technique. Now, I have developed my palate, trusted my creativity and am free to write my own recipes. In fact, I am looking forward to being a recipe contributor to Cooking Planit.

In-House Steak-House Dinner on the Cooking Planit Site

We decided to try out the app by making the In-House Steak House dinner. We modified it to make it paleo by simply omitting the blue cheese potato salad. I love the option to modify the meal - this app does not bind you to a set. You can pick and choose from recipes to build your own meal. Here is the link to that recipe: In-House Steak House

What our In-House Steak House Dinner looked like!

My first piece of advice is to USE THE APP. We started off on the wrong foot. My husband took to the grocery store with the list in his head. Cooking Planit gives you an interactive grocery list you can print and take with you! Had my husband done that, I would not have had to go back to the store for garlic and olive oil. The other cool thing about the grocery list is that you can edit it according to what you already have for the recipe and according to other items you need. For example, say you already had olive oil at home but you just ran out of diapers for your kid, you could delete the oil from the list and add the diaps. Clever eh?

Otherwise, I have no other advice. Let Cooking Planit guide you. Let it do the hard work of planning, timing and organization. Before you know it, you will have dinner on the table and your kitchen will be clean. I couldn't believe how easy it was to have a stress-free dinner. I looked around as I set the meal  on the table at the most amazing sight: The kitchen was clean. The dishes were done at the exact same time and we still had time to enjoy some wine.
