The boys got a special treat today. Bacon cheddar scones. YUMMMM. I almost took a bite. 

Bacon cheddar wheat scones
makes 8-10

2/3 c All-Purpose Flour
1/2 c whole wheat flour
1 Tbsp Sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c shredded cheddar cheese
5 Tbsp COLD butter, shredded with a cheese grater
3 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 stalk scallions, minced
2/3 c buttermilk
1 egg

Preheat oven to 375ยบ.  In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in cheese, butter, bacon, scallions and buttermilk. Roll dough out on a floured surface, about 1" thick. Cut into biscuits or triangles and place upside down on a sheet pan. Beat egg with 1 Tbsp of water and brush the tops of the scones with the wash. Sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 18-20 minutes, until they begin to turn golden brown.
